Parameterized curves

Learning objectives

  • Interpret functions from {\bf R} to {\bf R}^2 or {\bf R}^3 as parameterized curves
  • Use Mathematica to explore a variety of parameterized curves, including lines, circles, and helixes
  • Define and use velocity and acceleration vectors for motion 
  • Compute arc length of a parameterized curve

Before class

  • Read Hughes-Hallett sections 17.1, 1 7.2
  • Ponder Hughes-Hallett problems: 17.1: 1, 2, 4, 9, 13, 22, 26; 17.2: 3, 7, 13, 29, 40.
  • Watch video of a helix
  • Remember to bring your laptop to class for work with Mathematica.
