Learning objectives

• Compute partial derivatives algebraically
• Find the equation of a tangent plane:
• $z = f(a,b) + f_x(a,b)\Delta x + f_y(a,b) \Delta y$ where $z=f(x,y)$, $\Delta x = x-a$ and $\Delta y = y-b$
• Use algebraic differentiation to answer questions in applied contexts
